What You Can’t Measure, You Can’t Improve

Hudl offers a cloud-based solution to help coaches and athletes edit and share video, and advanced analytics to help their teams win. We operate in a continuous integration/delivery model with multiple deploys to production daily. We recently embarked on a journey to collect meaningful data to allow us to learn and make decisions based on the data.

If you have asked yourself – what should I measure? How do i apply it to a CI/CD lifecycle? what are some of the pitfalls? how will my team react? how do I roll out the measurements? how will they help us improve quality? – then don’t miss this presentation! Join Ashwin Desai as he presents the results and learnings of the journey to move Hudl to a quantitative, data driven approach. He will talk about how Hudl selected the measurements, worked with their agile teams to get buyin for the measurements and used the data to get an understanding of the quality of each initiative in progress and the variance between them. They used the measures to obtain holistic insights for the entire lifecycle – from development, to production deploys to customer experience – and used this data to learn and continuously improve quality. The talk will review the challenges and the successes they had in driving a culture of continuous learning.

Session Takeaways:

  1. Defining Quality Metrics for an agile and/or CI/CD Lifecycle.
  2. Getting buyin and rolling out metrics for a product organization.
  3. Using the metrics to instill a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  4. Challenges and successes from the initiative at Hudl.
