Risk-based Testing: What It Is and How You Can Benefit

For any real-world system, there are an almost infinite number of tests you can run, so you won’t have time to run anywhere near that many tests. Fortunately, there is a pragmatic way to select and prioritize your tests: risk-based testing.

In this presentation, Rex will explain a practical, quick, lightweight approach for incorporating an analysis of the risks to product quality into your iteration planning or test planning processes, involving developers, product owners, business analysts, and other business and technical stakeholders to build a consensus on what to test, how much to test, and the order to run the tests.

This will allow you to:

  • Focus on testing the most important areas and finding the most important bugs.
  • Find those bugs earlier in the sprint or test execution period.
  • Report test results in terms of what product quality risks have (and haven’t) been mitigated.
  • If necessary due to time considerations, trim test coverage while ensuring that the most important areas of the product received enough attention.

Since 1995, Rex has helped hundreds of companies and thousands of people around the world incorporate risk-based testing into their test processes, so you’ll be learning a time-proven approach in this session.
